The Federal Government’s renewed hope programme, which calls for using Nigeria’s enormous gas resources to resurrect its industrial boom and ignite its economic prosperity, would see a 25% increase in gas supplies in the upcoming weeks.

President Bola Tinubu revealed this on Wednesday while commissioning three important gas infrastructure projects in Kwale, Delta States, and Ohaji-Egbema, Imo State, which NNPC Limited and its partners carried out.

The three projects that have been put into service are the AHL Gas Processing Plant Expansion, the ANOH Gas Processing Plant, and the 23.3 km ANOH to Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Custody Transfer Metering Station Gas Pipeline project.

The President immediately stated that his administration was determined to use gas’s nearly limitless potential to boost domestic gas consumption, boost the nation’s capacity to generate electricity, revitalise key industries, and develop many job possibilities for economic expansion.

He added that substantial progress has been made in encouraging petrol development through Presidential Executive Orders and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative, which aims to wean Nigerians off of petrol and diesel as their primary vehicle combustion fuel.

As the preferred national energy company, Tinubu commended the three project partners—NNPC Limited, Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO), and Seplat Energy—for successfully executing the three projects. However, he specifically charged NNPC Limited to continue its unwavering efforts and achieve more triumphs in the energy sector to benefit all Nigerians.

Tinubu called the commissioning a significant achievement for Nigeria because it shows the administration’s commitment to quickly constructing vital gas infrastructure. This infrastructure is intended to improve the country’s energy supply and spur economic growth and job creation.

He declared that the projects complied perfectly with the federal government’s Decade of Gas plan and his administration’s goal of increasing the value of the country’s plentiful gas resources while boosting industrialization and doing away with gas flaring.

“The federal government is stepping up its coordination of other historic projects and initiatives that will ensure the earliest realisation of gas-fueled prosperity in our country, and I want to reassure the citizenry that these are just the beginning.” As a result, I want to reassure energy sector investors that this is an investment that supports government and that we won’t give up on making it easier for businesses to conduct business,” the President stated.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, had earlier in his speech emphasised the work being done by his ministry to support the use of gas as a transition fuel as Nigeria works towards attaining clean energy security and efficiency by 2060.

Ekpo thanked the President for his guidance and assistance ensuring the three projects’ success.

According to GCEO NNPC Mele Kyari, the commissioning shows the president’s support and commitment to increasing domestic use of natural gas for power generation, feedstock for gas-based industries, and Nigeria’s rapid industrialization due to the nation’s vast gas resources.

Kyari promised that NNPC Ltd. is still dedicated to upholding energy security as part of its duty by carrying out additional strategically important gas projects for Nigeria’s advantage.
