Ekiti Tourism Boss, Ojo-Lanre Honoured With Long Service Award In Nigerian Tourism Development

The Director General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, Amb. Wale Ojo-Lanre, has been honoured with the prestigious Long Service Award in Nigeria Tourism Development and Promotion by the National Tourism Transportation Summit.

The award recognises Ojo-Lanre’s unwavering commitment and significant contributions to the advancement of tourism in Nigeria over the past three decades. Chief Abiodun Ogunsanwo signed the nomination letter, underscoring Ojo-Lanre’s impactful legacy in the tourism sector.

Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre holds a degree in History Education, a master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, a diploma in Green Growth and Travelism, a diploma in Journalism, and a Barrister at Law. Notably, he also serves as the Associate Editor for Tourism, Travel, and Hospitality with the Nigerian Tribune, currently on a leave of absence. His extensive experience and dedication to tourism have laid the groundwork for significant developments within the industry.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ojo-Lanre has been a fervent advocate for establishing a separate Ministry for Tourism and Culture in Nigeria.

He actively approached and addressed the 8th Senate for this cause, emphasising the need for a dedicated governmental body to promote tourism effectively. His instrumental role in transforming the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation into the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority showcases his unwavering commitment to institutional advancement in the sector.

Furthermore, Ojo-Lanre has been a champion for the legal framework that established the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), highlighting his holistic approach to tourism education and development.

His leadership qualities have seen him serve as the National Publicity Director for three Presidents of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), including notable figures like Mr. Goodie Ibru, Alhaji Munsali Dantata, and Chief Eden Duke.

Ojo-Lanre’s global perspective on tourism is reflected in his participation in major local and international tourism fairs, including the London Travel Market, ITB Berlin, and IMEX in Frankfurt. He has visited 68 countries worldwide, passionately promoting Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage and tourism potential. Domestically, he has travelled extensively across Nigeria, visiting all national parks and advocating for protecting and promoting the nation’s natural wonders.

His distinguished service includes leadership roles as Chairman of the Oyo State NUJ, President of the Guild of Tourism Journalists in Nigeria, and Vice Chairman of the Association of Travel Writers in Nigeria (ANJET). Additionally, he has excelled as the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Segun Oni, Director General of the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture, and Senior Special Assistant on Tourism Development to Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The Long Service Award will be formally presented to Ambassador Ojo-Lanre on December 4, 2024, in Abuja, a fitting acknowledgement of his remarkable journey and contributions to elevating Nigeria’s tourism landscape.
