A Federal High Court in Ibadan has intervened in a dispute within the Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye, restraining the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, from imposing a new executive committee on the global Ogbomoso indigenes association.

The court’s ruling follows a legal challenge initiated by the association’s acting president, Alhaji Yusuf Adetayo, and two other members.

Soun Dissolves Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Executives

The Soun, in early September, had dissolved the existing executive and announced Prof. Josiah Ajiboye as acting president, leading a caretaker committee tasked with overseeing an election for a new leadership. However, Adetayo, along with Mr. Tolani Balogun and Alhaji Bukola Badmus, contested the monarch’s actions, taking Oba Ghandi, Ajiboye, and the association’s registered trustees to court.

Their legal argument centered on the Soun’s authority, claiming that “Oba Olaoye does not have the power to sack the executive and impose leaders on the association.” They emphasized the independent nature of the Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye, noting that it is “guided by its own constitution being a Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)- registered entity.

The applicants sought court orders to prevent Ajiboye and his appointed committee from taking control of the association’s secretariat and from taking any steps toward conducting elections or appointing new officials, effectively displacing the current leadership.

Delivering a ruling on an ex-parte motion filed by the applicants’ lawyers on Monday, Justice N. E. Maha ordered a “status quo ante” – a maintenance of the current situation – pending a decision on the motion filed on November 11, 2025.

The court further instructed the applicants to serve the respondents with the certified true copy of the enrolled order, the motion on notice requesting interlocutory injunctions, the originating summons, and other relevant documents within 48 hours. Hearing notices were also ordered to be served to the respondents, with the hearing of the pending motion seeking interlocutory orders adjourned to December 1, 2025.

The Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye, comprised of Ogbomoso indigenes worldwide, recognizes the Soun of Ogbomoso as its life grand patron, with other prominent traditional rulers in the area serving as life patrons. The life patrons include the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Aresadu of Iresaadu, and Alajaawa of Ajaawa.
