The election and installation of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso were declared invalid by an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso, NewspeakOnline reports.

REPORTERS AT LARGE earlier reported that on September 8, 2023, the kingmakers of the town installed Olaoye as the next Soun, as confirmed by the Oyo State Government.

Remember how Prince Kabir Olaoye, a competitor for the Soun of Ogbomoso stool, pursued Ghandi to court because he wasn’t qualified to hold the office?

Judge K.A. Adedokun, in ruling on an ex-parte motion filed by Kabir, had restrained the Governor, Attorney General, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in Oyo State from presenting Ghandi with any official instrument in any ceremony or issuing a certificate of installation until after the mandatory injunction filed with the court has been heard and decided.

According to Kabir Olaoye, the Ogbomoso Chieftaincy Declaration and due process were not followed in Ghandi’s appointment.

As a result, he begged the court to declare the selection process void and mandate that the kingmakers hold new elections.

Judge Adedokun rendered a decision on Wednesday invalidating Ghandi’s appointment and installation as Soon of Ogbomoso and directing the kingmakers to start again in order to choose a new ruler for the town.
