The story was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi on Thursday.

According to the PPRO, the case was reported at Mokola Police Station on Thursday, at about 9:10a.m., by one Alamu Timothy.

He said that Timothy told the police that late Tosin, a resident of Ode Oolo area of Ibadan, was going home, and was at Total Filling Station, Mokola, “when he was hit by pellets from gun fired by Amotekun operatives.

“He was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for immediate medical attention.

“He was thereafter confirmed dead by the medical personnel,” the PPRO said.

Adding that investigation had commenced into the case, CSP Fadeyi stated that further development would unfold.

A credible police source, who craved anonymity, told Reporters At Large that the deceased was hit by pellets on the left side of his chest and abdomen, saying that the shot must have been at close range.

Before the shooting, there was reportedly a fight among a group of young people, but no one had come to declare that there was a fight.

The corpse of the deceased had been placed in front of his residence, with his friends and neighbourhood members peacefully protesting against the death of Tosin.

But they were said to have been placated by police officers who pleaded for calm, telling them an investigation would be carried out in relation to the case.

Following the peace move by the police, the peaceful protesters were said to have released the corpse to them.

It was learnt that the remains had been deposited in the mortuary at the State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ring Road, Ibadan, for autopsy.

An attempt to speak with the mother of the deceased was unsuccessful, as she was too distraught to respond.

When contacted, the state Commander of Amotekun, Colonel Olayinka Olayanju said that an investigation had started on the case, with the promise that an update on the development would be made known.
