As Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Adha 2026, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged the Muslim Ummah to increase their prayers for the state and the nation. Alongside spiritual devotion, the governor stressed that citizens must heighten their security awareness in Oyo State during the festive period.
The official call came through a press release by his Special Adviser (Media), Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, wishing Muslims a peaceful celebration.

The governor congratulated the Muslim faithful on witnessing the all-important festival known as the Festival of Sacrifice. He prayed that God would preserve their lives to witness more years in good health and abiding wealth. However, the celebrations this year are marked by a serious tone as the region grapples with pressing safety concerns.
Oyo State Security and the Search for Abducted Pupils
Beyond the traditional celebrations, the governor rallied the Muslim Ummah to pray for the government as it continues the effort to rescue the abducted Oriire school pupils and teachers. The recent incident has cast a shadow over the festivities, prompting a direct appeal from the state leadership for collective spiritual intervention.
Stemming the Tide of Kidnapping in Nigeria
Governor Makinde also charged all residents of the state to be vigilant during and after the Sallah Festival. He stated that it has become quite important for everyone to be more security-conscious than ever before as the country battles banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria.
He reassured the public that his administration would continue to serve the interests of the people. Furthermore, he promised to remain on the trajectory of securing the state and its people while moving them into greater economic prosperity.
