Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, said Nigerians are always disappointed in the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration because they look for results in the wrong places.
The minister made this known on Thursday, October 1, during an interview with Channels TV in celebration of Nigeria’s 60th anniversary of independence.
Fashola further stated that the responsibility of the government is to project hope for people. He urged people expecting a miracle from the federal government to focus on the state and the local government because they are closer to the grassroots.
The former Lagos State governor also told Nigerians that government is not magic.
He emphasised that the government that can transform and give what people want quickly is none other than the government closest to them. According to him, basic infrastructure like primary healthcare, primary education and other amenities can only be provided by state and local governments.
In his words: “Governance is not magic. It is the act of the possible and our responsibility is to always project hope. Perhaps those who feel that way (disappointed) should be made to realize that what we expect of the Nigerian Federal government lies more with the state government and the local government…some of the most basic things.
