Hon Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide (Odidiomo), representing the Ibadan North-west/South-west constituency, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The federal lawmaker tendered his withdrawal from the PDP in a letter dated 5 May 2026, and delivered to the Ward 11 Chairman of the party, in the Ibadan South-west local government area. This markes the end of a long-standing chapter for the representative in the Oyo State House of Representatives circle.
Strategic Reasons Behind the Odidiomo PDP Resignation
According to the lawmaker, this move was not a sudden impulse. Instead, it followed a period of deep reflection and wide-reaching discussions. Olajide clarified that the choice was born out of extensive consultations with his political associates, loyal supporters, and the very constituents who put him in office.
In his official correspondence, the federal lawmaker explained that the decision, while difficult, was essential due to the “prevailing realities” currently found within the party’s internal structure. His departure highlights a broader trend in the Nigeria 2027 political alignment, where key players are seeking environments that offer more stability and a progressive approach to public service.
Maintaining Commitment to the Ibadan North-west/South-west Constituency
Despite leaving the party platform that saw him through two successful elections, Olajide remains focused on his primary duty: serving the people. A statement released by Tolu Mustapha, his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, confirmed the development and reinforced the lawmaker’s dedication to his legislative mandate.
Olajide was quick to point out that his time with the PDP was defined by hard work and mutual success. He noted that since joining the party, he had committed himself wholeheartedly to its growth, which eventually led to his re-election to the Green Chamber. However, he now seeks a path that “guarantees inclusiveness, stability and progressive engagement.”
A Gracious Exit from the Oyo State House of Representatives Bloc
In an era often defined by bitter political rivalries, the Olajide Odidiomo PDP Resignation is notable for its diplomatic tone. The lawmaker did not use his departure to air grievances but instead chose to thank the party hierarchy for the platform they provided him.
The lawmaker expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the party across various levels for the support, trust and opportunities extended to him during his stay in the PDP.
“I remain profoundly grateful to the leadership and members of the party across all levels for the support, trust and opportunities extended to me over the years,” he stated.
Future Implications for the Nigeria 2027 Political Alignment
While Olajide has not yet announced his next political destination, his resignation has sparked intense speculation across Oyo State. By leaving the PDP “in good faith and without bitterness,” he has kept his options open. He stressed that he still holds members of the party in high esteem and intends to value the many professional relationships he built during his tenure.
As the Ibadan North-west/South-west constituency watches closely, the focus now shifts to how this exit will affect the balance of power in the region. For now, Olajide remains a free agent, driven by a commitment to public service that transcends party lines.
