In a bid to redefine governance and legislative representation within Oyo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Samson Opeyemi Fatola, has officially launched his campaign roadmap.
The policy document, titled “The Covenant Code: A 5-Pillar Manifesto — A Blueprint for Legislative Excellence and Urban Transformation,” was presented during a ceremony at the PDP Secretariat in Molete, Ibadan.
Addressing party chieftains, political stakeholders, and community members, Hon Fatola emphasised that his campaign strategy prioritises issue-based solutions over political rhetoric, offering direct answers to long-standing socioeconomic challenges across the constituency.
Samson Opeyemi Fatola: Strategic Priorities of the Covenant Code
The Samson Opeyemi Fatola manifesto outlines five structural pillars designed to guide legislative oversight and targeted developmental intervention:
- Infrastructure and Community Development: Tackling persistent urban environmental threats, including severe flooding, lack of clean drinking water, and inadequate public sanitation.
- Housing and Protection: Enhancing residential safety and urban planning frameworks across local districts.
- Human Capital and Empowerment: Directing resources toward skills acquisition and employment creation for youth.
- Informal Labour Support: Extending financial access and cooperative funding structures to grassroots traders.
- Social Inclusion and Welfare: Establishing safety nets for vulnerable populations, including elderly citizens and individuals undergoing addiction recovery.
Fatola criticised past political campaigns characterised by “recycled slogans” that fail to deliver tangible progress. He promised that his tenure in the House of Representatives would fuse active lawmaking with constituency-driven projects, delivering measurable results rather than unfulfilled guarantees.
Targeted Interventions for Local Communities
A core element of the PDP Ibadan election agenda involves addressing grassroots hardship in specific high-density settlements. Fatola highlighted communities such as Foko, Bode, and Asaka as primary zones requiring immediate structural remediation for drainage and clean water infrastructure. Furthermore, he committed to sponsoring legislation and driving funding for modern, functional healthcare centres across both Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West.
Economic revitalisation for informal workers forms another pillar of the blueprint. Fatola announced plans to establish dedicated cooperative support schemes for market traders, particularly women operating in busy commercial hubs like Dugbe and Alesinloye markets. These schemes will improve direct access to low-interest financing and business assistance.
Social policy proposals under the manifesto include a Senior Citizens Programme offering monthly stipends alongside a local food bank network. Addressing public health, Fatola advocated replacing criminalization policies for drug dependency with structured rehabilitation and reintegration frameworks.
The launch event featured key party figures, including Hon. Bolanle Sarumi Aliu, PDP candidate for the Oyo South Senatorial District, alongside local ward leaders and supporters. Framing his policy document as a binding moral contract, Fatola urged the electorate in the Ibadan North-West South-West constituency to view the blueprint as a sacred covenant and hold him accountable to its commitments throughout his legislative tenure.
