The forthcoming 14th Youth Tourism and Hospitality Leaders Forum (YTHLF) has received a significant boost with a N2 million aviation scholarship fund designed to launch young Nigerians into rewarding aviation careers in Nigeria.
The funding commitment, pledged by the Universal School of Aviation, will grant selected participants full access to professional courses that might otherwise remain financially out of reach.
The initiative directly targets ambitious youths who possess the drive for the sector but lack the financial backing to enroll in specialised training programmes. Beneficiaries will be selected through a live raffle draw during the upcoming gathering in Oyo State.
Convener of the Youth Tourism and Hospitality Leaders Forum, Omololu Olumuyiwa, highlighted the life-changing nature of the scheme. He emphasised that the initiative moves beyond simple event attendance by establishing clear, accessible entry points into critical national industries.
“This is not just about attending an event; it is about creating real opportunities for our young people. Many youths are passionate about aviation and have the ambition to acquire professional training, but financial constraints often stand in their way. These scholarships will give some of them the opportunity to take that important first step,” Olumuyiwa said.
The timing of the announcement aligns with growing calls for targeted skills development across West Africa’s travel and transport sectors. Olumuyiwa noted that this aviation scholarship drive builds on years of proven progress, with previous recipients successfully transitioning from the classroom directly into active duty across the industry.
“This is one of the things that gives us the greatest satisfaction at YTHLF. We have seen some of our scholarship beneficiaries go through training, acquire professional qualifications and eventually secure employment in the aviation industry. That is the kind of impact we want to continue making,” he added.
Bridging the Industry Skills Gap via the Universal School of Aviation Scholarship
Nigeria’s transport and leisure markets face a continuous demand for qualified, forward-thinking professionals. Industry partnerships play a pivotal role in filling this pipeline. The strategic alignment between YTHLF and the Universal School of Aviation represents a direct investment in human capital, addressing workforce shortages while offering real mobility to determined young people.
Organisers have confirmed that the live selection process will take place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in Ibadan. The event promises to gather students, policy experts, business executives, and rising professionals under one roof to debate the trajectory of the nation’s service economy.
For many attendees, the raffle draw will mark the defining moment of the forum. Securing an aviation scholarship provides more than immediate tuition relief; it unlocks accredited qualifications, structured mentorship networks, and vital commercial contacts.
Building Long-Term Aviation Careers in Nigeria
Since its launch, YTHLF has positioned youth empowerment at the heart of its mission. The forum continues to champion travel, commercial flight, and guest services as major drivers of national economic growth. By removing financial barriers, the platform ensures that raw talent—rather than personal wealth—determines who enters the workforce.
As preparations for the Ibadan conference gather pace, the introduction of the N2 million funding package underscores a simple truth: backing young talent today secures the long-term resilience of Nigeria’s broader aviation, tourism, and hospitality landscape.
