Tackle Insecurity Now Before It Gets Out Of Hands, Makinde Tells FG, Reveals Plan To Begin Biometric Capturing For Okada Operators

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has charged the Federal Government to be proactive in tackling the rising insecurity in the country.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the 2020 Annual Press Week of the Oyo state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Ibadan, Engr. Makinde emphasised the need for the government to put in more efforts in tacklibg the menace.

Reporters At Large had earlier reported the gruesome killings of 43 rice farmers in Borno state by armed bandits.

While expressing serious concern over state of insecurity in different parts of the country, Governor Makinde warned that the current state of insecurity calls for immediate action to nip the situation in the bud adding that “there is need to tackle insecurity in the country before it’s gets out of hands.

“If we continue with this path, no one is safe in Nigeria. We need to change our course. We all have role to play in developing Nigeria,” he added.

Makinde, however, disclosed the plans of his administration to commence biometric registration for motorcyclists in the Oyo State, as part of measures to tackle insecurity.

He said, “We want to know the Okada people in Oyo state. We want to have identify management of Okada people in Oyo state. Their biometric will be captured. It is true we have business friendly environment but we must know them.”

While commending journalists for the crucial role they play in the development of the country, he stated that “though we cannot expect journalists to build road, because it is the primary responsibility of government but you have your role to play. But you can use your pen to destroy or develop Nigeria.”

Makinde however enjoined journalists to continue to fight for betterment of Nigeria.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of the Oyo NUJ, ComradeAdemola Babalola commended the governor for his support for the media, saying “Nigeria can only develop if all regardless of their background play their parts”
