Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has secured her place in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the World Ultimate Championship in Budapest after delivering a strong semifinal performance.

Amusan was beaten by Devynne Charlton, who produced a rapid start and held on to win the semifinal in 12.45 seconds. The four-hundredths-of-a-second difference separated the two leading hurdlers at the finish.

For Amusan, however, the result was enough to secure progression to the final as she continues her campaign on the biggest stage.

The Nigerian entered the semifinal knowing that every fraction of a second could make the difference between advancing and missing out.

She responded with a composed run, crossing the line in 12.49s to claim second place behind Charlton.

The performance ensured that Tobi Amusan 100mH final hopes became reality, setting up another opportunity for the Nigerian sprint hurdler to compete for major honours.

Amusan’s ability to produce a strong performance under pressure was once again on display. While she could not match Charlton’s 12.45s, her 12.49s was enough to keep her among the athletes advancing to the decisive race.

Devynne Charlton Edges Amusan in Budapest

Charlton’s quick start proved decisive in the semifinal.

The hurdler immediately established herself at the front of the race and finished in 12.45 seconds, narrowly beating Amusan by 0.04 seconds.

Amusan remained close enough to secure second place and avoid any late drama over qualification.

The result also highlights how tight the women’s 100m hurdles competition remains, with the smallest margins capable of determining the final order.

With Charlton finishing ahead of her in the semifinal, Amusan will now have another chance to reverse the result when the athletes line up for the final.

Nigeria’s Hurdling Star Eyes the Final

For Nigerian athletics fans, Tobi Amusan 100mH final qualification provides another reason for excitement.

Amusan has established herself as one of Nigeria’s leading track and field athletes, particularly in the sprint hurdles, and her progression to the final gives her another opportunity to compete against the world’s best.

Her semifinal time of 12.49s also shows that she is within touching distance of the leading pace.

The final will provide a completely different test. Unlike the semifinal, there will be no second chance, meaning every start, hurdle clearance and finish will carry greater importance.

Amusan will therefore need to produce an even stronger performance if she is to finish ahead of the leading contenders.

What to Expect From the 100m Hurdles Final

The Tobi Amusan 100mH final will bring together the athletes who successfully negotiated their respective semifinals, with the medals ultimately decided over one race.

Amusan’s semifinal performance gives her a solid platform heading into the final. Her 12.49s was only 0.04 seconds slower than Charlton’s winning time, showing that the Nigerian was already operating close to the front of the field.

A faster start could be particularly important in the final after Charlton’s quick reaction and early acceleration helped her establish the advantage in the semifinal.

For Amusan, the target will be simple: execute her race cleanly, maintain her rhythm between the hurdles and produce her strongest finish when it matters most.

Amusan Keeps Nigeria’s Hopes Alive

The qualification is another significant moment for Nigerian athletics.

Tobi Amusan 100mH final qualification means Nigeria will have representation in the medal race, with Amusan now just one race away from potentially adding another major achievement to her career.

Her second-place semifinal finish also demonstrated that she remains capable of competing at the sharp end of a highly competitive field.

Charlton may have taken the semifinal win, but the margin was narrow. Amusan’s 12.49s leaves plenty of room for optimism heading into the final.

The Nigerian now has the opportunity to turn qualification into a medal.

The final promises another high-speed battle, and Amusan will be aiming to make the most of her opportunity after successfully navigating the semifinal stage.
