Yes! Why? Who is Senator Ayo Arise in the context of Ekiti State and the history of the great Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) that the entire authority—from the Governing Council to the Management and the students—unanimously, in their wisdom, agreed to name the most beautiful and longest road in the university after him?

You mean why?

Sometimes, one wonders why God created certain people not out of hatred but because of how their minds process information.

However, I have realised that when God created us, He did not distribute wisdom equally. Our levels of critical thinking and perception differ significantly.

If not, I do not see how any rational mind could be so blinded by ignorance and oblivious to history that it fails to acknowledge Senator Ayo Arise’s tireless facilitation efforts in bringing FUOYE to Oye Ekiti.

In a world where selfless service and sacrifice are often forgotten, it is refreshing and commendable that the Governing Council and Management of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) have taken a remarkable step in recognizing a man whose vision and tenacity played a defining role in the establishment of the institution. The decision to name the longest road within FUOYE after Senator Ayo Arise is a well-thought-out gesture and an act of justice to history and posterity.

Senator Ayo Arise: A Leader Who Put His People First

Senator Ayo Arise, who represented Ekiti North Senatorial District in 2007, embodied the essence of true leadership—one rooted in service, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to the people. As a diligent and responsive representative, he carried the hopes and aspirations of his constituents on his shoulders, ensuring that their voices were heard at the national level.

One of his greatest legacies remains his relentless pursuit of a federal university for Oye Ekiti. At a time when the struggle for the location of such a prestigious institution was intense, Senator Arise staked his goodwill, influence, and personal credibility to ensure that FUOYE remained in his hometown, Oye Ekiti. He remained steadfast despite fierce opposition and multiple attempts to relocate the university elsewhere.

The price he paid for this noble fight was immense. He faced persecution, political alienation, and ultimately, the loss of his re-election bid to the Senate—a battle he chose to forfeit rather than betray the trust of his people or compromise the location of FUOYE. He endured financial losses, personal attacks, and public ridicule, all in the name of securing this institution for future generations.

For years, it seemed Senator Arise’s sacrifices had been forgotten. Neither FUOYE, founded in 2011, nor the people of Oye Ekiti had officially acknowledged his efforts. It was disheartening that a man who labored so hard, suffered great losses, and bore humiliation in fighting for FUOYE’s establishment was left unrecognized.

Thus, the recent decision by FUOYE’s Governing Council and Management to name the longest road in the institution after Senator Ayo Arise is not just plausible but highly commendable. Though delayed, it is a symbolic gesture of appreciation and encouragement for Senator Arise and every selfless leader who puts collective progress above personal gain.

This honor is a lesson in history and a beacon of hope, reminding us that while recognition may not always come immediately, true service to humanity never goes unnoticed. The Almighty rewards good deeds and will bless FUOYE for bestowing this long-overdue honor.

To everyone who contributed to immortalizing Senator Arise’s name within FUOYE, may honor and prosperity find you. May this gratitude inspire future leaders to serve with integrity, knowing that history will never forget those who fight for the greater good.

Once again, I commend FUOYE’s Governing Council and Management for this outstanding decision. Senator Ayo Arise deserved this honor long ago, but as they say, God’s time is the best.
