While attending school and even enrolling in college-level courses, brothers Shane and Nigel Mushambi, who are just 12 and 13 years old, are now the owners and CEOs of their Texas-based bakery, Two Bros in the Kitchen. They also make it a point to support their neighbourhood.
Shane and Nigel, who live in Missouri City, have always loved baking. After winning three straight years in a local baking competition, they decided to turn their hobby into a bakery business. They realised they should start selling their products when someone expressed interest in purchasing their winning piece.
They run a business and earn money, but they also donate some of their profits to charity. Additionally, they use their money to provide hundreds of meals to the homeless.
Shane said, “We like giving back to the community because the community has given a lot to us,” he told ABC 13. We donate to the JB Dondolo Foundation and Fort Bend Cares, both working to rehabilitate African hospitals.
The brothers like studying math and physics in addition to baking. At Houston Community College, Shane, an 8th grader, is enrolled in college-level math and engineering classes, and Nigel, a seventh grader, is enrolled in a pre-calculus class. They attempt to apply what they have learnt about baking.
Shane stated, “I enjoy baking because it combines art and science. You must understand how bases and acids interact.
The irrepressible brothers also enjoy writing. They just released their first book, Beyond the Kitchen: How to Cook Up Success with Life’s Mistakes, to motivate young people to pursue their aspirations. One dollar is donated to the JB Dondolo Foundation for each book sold.
Nigel explained, “It’s about the mistakes we’ve made in the kitchen and how we learnt from them. Our book was just recently published last week.
According to Shane, it demonstrates that you don’t need to be perfect to succeed. “As long as you learn from it, failing is okay.”
