Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had jumped into a massive lead over his two closest challengers – Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Mr. Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Akeredolu has won nine of the 12 councils while his major challenger, Mr Jegede PDP, won three councils.
So far, Akeredolu has polled 178,854 votes while Jegede got 141,083 votes.
Hon Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), is trailing the duo with 32,060 votes and is yet to win any council.
With the results from no fewer than 2,900 polling units announced so far by the INEC, Governor Akeredolu’s re-election quest in Ondo State remained on course at 2.30 am after results from 12 of the 18 local councils were announced.
Meanwhile, the results showed most of the leading political heavy weights delivering their polling units to their various parties. However, some of them lost their units.
Among those who won their polling booths were Akeredolu; Ajayi; Jegede; former governor of Ondo State and National Leader of ZLP, Dr Olusegun Mimiko; PDP deputy governorship candidate, Gboluga Ikengboju; and ZLP deputy governorship candidate, Gboye Adegbenro.
Top shots who lost their polling units include Speaker Bamidele Oleyelogun; Mr. Bunmi Ademosun, Special Adviser on Multilateral; Coordinator of School Feeding, Idowu Otetubi; Ondo state SSG , Tayo Oluwatuyi; and a former Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde.
