Following a recent discovery of a baby factory, Ogun State Police Command has stumbled on another one at Mowe community, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The discovery was made on Friday, November 27, 2020 on Lagos Street, Adesan.
Disclosing this in a statement on Thursday, December 3, the police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the discovery was made possible after concerned residents of the area told the police at Mowe Division that a particular building located in their area was being suspected to be a baby-making factory.
The residents had noted that most of the women seen there were always with pregnancy, but were hardly seen with babies after delivery.
“They stated further that from their observation, the babies were being sold.
“Acting on the strength of the information, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Marvis Jayeola led policemen to the area, and a man, who was strongly suspected to be working for the operator of the baby factory, was arrested with four women and four children.
“One of the women is heavily pregnant, while another one has just delivered a baby which had been sold, as usual,” Oyeyemi said.
He stated further that a preliminary investigation revealed that the home is strongly linked to one Mrs Florence Ogbonna, tagged a notorious baby factory operator, who had earlier been arrested for similar offence and had her case pending in court.
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun Awolowo had ordered manhunt for Ogbonna.
The police commissioner also directed that the case be transferred to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
