Muhammadu Buhari on security

President Muhammadu Buhari

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kaduna State and Executive Vice- Chairman, Qura Mandate Consulting Nigeria, has advised General Muhammadu Buhari to resign as President of Nigeria, over what he called his many failures.

According to him, Buhari who sworn by the Quoran as President, Federal Republic of Nigeria to secure lives of the citizens, has failed to do so. “Over, over and over again, this is the sixth year in office, the situation under him is very worse and there is no indication that it is likely to improve”, he said disappointingly.

Dr. Baba-Ahmed, who is reputed for his bluntness, made these assertions on Seun Okinbaloye`s Politics Today on the Channels Television while speaking on a talk show titled: Security Under Buhari’s Watch.

He contended that” What else is left other than to ask him that there is honour in democratic and civilised countries that when leaders failed to protect their citizens, particularly at this scale and the level at which our people are dying, is to resign.”

“He has failed. As one of the critical responsibility is to protect citizens. Yes, things have gone worst like this,” adding ” We have taken our time to assess the situation, we don’t want to rush to judgement. We wanted to give him a chance like everybody says leadership is very difficult, he has very challenging responsibilities, but for four, five, six or seven years,” he added.

Baba-Ahmed, who took a swipe at Buhari`s lack-lustre performance, particularly on the security of lives as President, noted with dismay that the same Buhari asked President Goodluck Jonathan two years before he became President to step aside and give him or others the responsibility to run the affairs of the country. “He has enough time to study the situation, he is a General, he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he is a military man, he doesn’t have any excuse of not knowing how to fight wars,” adding ” he puts people in charge, they are still in charge and we are losing this war,” he lamented.

According to the visibly worried Baba-Ahmed, “One American citizen was kidnapped somewhere in Niger and taking to Nigeria, the US sent its military with the consent of the Nigerian Government to rescue the person,” asking rhetorically “What do you say to the Nigerian President under whom our people are dying. How do you explain what happened in Borno? It is the failure of security, failure of leadership. What else do you say to Mr President who has the responsibility to secure the lives of Nigerians than to resign?”
