Ahead of the 2023 general election, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been officially affirmed as the Accord Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State.

The event, which was held at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, witnessed the presence of a mammoth loyalist of the Accord Party across the state’s 33 local government areas.

According to the state Chairman of Accord, Chief Bayo Adelabu’s affirmation complies with the amended electoral law and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, allowing the parties to substitute the candidates‘ names before the stipulated time.

He noted that the guidelines stipulate that Accord leadership at the national and state levels substituted the name of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Ayodele Oyajide, and affirmed Chief Adebayo Adelabu as the party’s standard bearer.

In his address, the National Chairman, Alhaji Muhammed Nalado, charged the Accord members and people of Oyo State to stand with the party’s flag bearer in the coming election, saying that the party has become a household name in the state.

“I urge all the party members that are aggrieved to embrace peace and let us be in one Accord, Nigerians need a true change, we are seeing what we are seeing today because we made a wrong choice then, let us come out in 2023 and elect a right leader,” Nalado said.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the newly affirmed Accord candidate, called for collective efforts to win the 2023 elections in Oyo State.

According to him, “This is our time of progress and this is our time to move on to the next level in Oyo State, for a new dawn has come, I thank all members of the Accord party and the change you’re yearning for is here, our coming to Accord Party is not by accident, this will be the first time that the Accord Party will produce the governor for Oyo State. We are not only winning the gubernatorial but also all the Senatorial, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly seats.

“We need oneness and progress to win the elections, Adelabu cannot win it alone, and I urge everybody to come together, the voice of the people shall reign supreme at the coming election, and I believe they want me to be their governor, whatever we can do to make our people come together, let’s do it. The work has started, and by the grace of God come 2023, I shall be sworn in as the governor of Oyo State.

“I shall give the masses free education, security, economy, and free flow of transportation in our cities. Very soon, we shall start a door-to-door campaign across the state. Today is not for the campaign, but I can assure you that we are going to win at the next election,” Adelabu said.

All Accord candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly in Oyo State attended the programme.
