The head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has described laws that criminalise homosexuality as unjust. He pointed out that God loves all his children, just as they are.
The Pope opined this in Tuesday’s exclusive interview with the Associated Press (AP).
He said, “being homosexual isn’t a crime.” He then charged Catholic bishops who supported the anti-gay laws to accept LGBTQ people into the church.
Francis admitted that Catholic bishops in some parts of the world support laws that criminalise homosexuality or discriminate against the LGBTQ community. He referred to the issue as a “sin.”
But the Pope ascribed homosexuality to cultural backgrounds while noting the need for bishops, in particular need, to undergo a process of change to recognise the dignity of everyone.
