The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FRCN Ibadan Chapel has bestowed awards of honour on some members of the National Assembly, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of DLA Toys and Amusement Park in Ikeja, Lagos, and Yeye (Dr.) Folashade Shona, the CEO of AVO Pizza Fabulous in Arepo, Ogun State.

After considering her numerous contributions to society through various empowerment and other human development programmes, the NUJ FRCN Ibadan Chapel gave Yeye Shona the Prestigious Award of Philanthropist of the Year 2024.

The Senator Representing Oyo North, Dr. Abdulfatai Buhari, was awarded Outstanding Senator of the Year 2024; Member Representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Remi Oseni, as Best Performing House of Representatives Member of the Year 2024; and the wife of a Former Governor of Oyo State, Dr (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, as the NUJ FRCN Ibadan Personality of the Year 2024.

Yeye Shona, a businesswoman, entrepreneur, and educationist, received the award during the NUJ FRCN Ibadan Chapel Press Week, which was held on Thursday at the Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, Zonal Headquarters, Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Presenting her with the award, the Zonal Director, FRCN SouthWest Zone, Mr Dominic Mokikan, commended Yeye Folashade Shona for her empowerment programmes, support for the less privileged, and humble and friendly personality despite her status in society.

Speaking further about the awardee, who was represented by her brother, Mr. Samuel Adesina, one of the committee members, Comrade Olawale Asake, noted that the award was given to Yeye Folashade Shona for the great impact she is making in touching lives, blessing humanity, and adding value to others.

The Chairman of the Union, Comrade Oluwakayode Banjo, appealed to the award recipient not to relent, saying people like her are rare in society and that her contributions paved the way for the award.

Responding to the award as Philanthropist of the Year 2024, Yeye (Dr) Folashade Shona appreciated the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ FRCN Ibadan Chapel, for finding her worthy of such an award, particularly from a respected and professional organisation like NUJ.

She dedicated the award to God for giving her opportunities to contribute her quota to the lives of others and to her husband, whom she described as a strong pillar of support, her “Kabiyesi,” and all the female artisans in the country.

The event’s attendees included the Committee of Management, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Ibadan Zonal Station, the Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, the Oyo State Council, the Patron and Patroness of NUJ FRCN Ibadan Chapel, Prince Niran Adeyoju and Ambassador Romoke Ayinde, respectively, politicians, captains of industry, and journalists from various media houses.
