Senator (Dr) Sharafadeen Alli, representing the Oyo South Senatorial District, has announced plans to officially declare his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship 2027 seat.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Media Office and made available to newsmen on Monday in Ibadan. The announcement marks a significant shift in the Oyo APC landscape as the race to succeed the current administration begins to take shape.

Official Declaration Details

The declaration ceremony is scheduled to hold on Friday, April 17 at the Divisional Police Station Training Field, Yemetu, Ibadan by 10:00 a.m.

The event is expected to attract a large gathering of party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and well-wishers from across the state and beyond as the seasoned politician formally unveils his ambition under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Alli, a former Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, ex-Secretary to the Oyo State Government, and former Chief of Staff to a past governor, is widely regarded as a grassroots mobiliser with vast administrative and political experience.

Vision for Sustainable Development

The senator, who currently represents Oyo South at the National Assembly, is said to be stepping into the race with a strong vision to reposition the state for sustainable development, improved governance, and inclusive growth.

Sources within his political camp disclosed that the declaration would also serve as an opportunity to outline his agenda and rally party faithful ahead of what is expected to be a keenly contested race.

Security arrangements and logistics have been put in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free event, as anticipation continues to build among supporters and political observers across the state.

Statewide Consultations and APC Endorsements

A leading governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli has intensified statewide consultations ahead of his anticipated governorship declaration. He engaged stakeholders across Ogbomoso and Oyo federal constituencies to consolidate support within the APC structures.

During the visit, Alli paid homage to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owode, in company of Hon Akeem Adeyemi and other influential political leaders. He visited Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire local governments, where he received unanimous endorsement from party leadership and stakeholders at all levels.

Prominent Figures in Attendance

The gathering featured prominent figures including Rtd. Gen. Brimo Yusuff, Hon Dayo Lawal, Hon Peter Odetomi, Hon Olamiju Alao-Akala, Hon Segun Odebunmi, Hon Jacob Bangboye and others. Others in attendance included: Hon Oseni, Hon Matthew Fashola, Hon Gunju Ojo and Mr Soji Adedeji.

Senator Alli was accompanied by Chief Akinyemi Akinlabi, Hon Dauda Abiola, Hon Johnson Ayanleke, Dr Tunji Olanipekun and Hon Bayo Aderounmu among others.

The leading aspirant leveraged the engagements to articulate his vision, foster consensus, and reinforce party unity. The visit revealed the growing momentum and widespread support he continues to enjoy across political structures in the state. These engagements form part of consultations ahead of his April 17 declaration, as observers said that “the increasing endorsements signal readiness and commitment toward unity within the APC.”
