The Olaide family of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, has announced the transition of their beloved patriarch, High Chief Gbadamosi Ayinla Olaide, at the age of 83. Consequently, arrangements for the Pa Gbadamosi Olaide funeral have been made public to allow friends, family, and associates to pay their final respects to the late High Chief, popularly called Babapupa, who passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, after a brief age-related illness.
Lagos Elder Statesman Burial: Dates and Venues Released
During his impactful lifetime, Pa Olaide stood out as a highly respected elder statesman, dedicated community leader, and prominent traditional title holder. He served faithfully as the High Chief Baba Ewe of Ojokoro Kingdom and Babaloja of Oja Obada, Jankara, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos. To honour his vast legacy, the family has scheduled the Lagos elder statesman burial activities to span three days in August, ensuring a fitting farewell for a man who gave so much to his people.
According to the official funeral programme released by the family, the events will commence on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. A Service of Songs and Commendation Service will hold at the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ultra-Modern Market, opposite the Oba of Ojokoro Palace, Jankara, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos State, at 4pm.
The final journey continues the following day with deeper spiritual reflections. The family’s statement, signed by the eldest son, Bishop Olufemi Olaide, indicated that:
“On Thursday, August 6, 2026, there will be a Christian Wake-Keep for Pa Olaide at the same venue by 4.pm.”
The pinnacle of the Pa Gbadamosi Olaide funeral proceedings will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026. A solemn Lying-in-State and Funeral Service will hold at the same market venue starting at 9am. This will be followed by interment immediately after at his residence: 10 Kato Street, Behind the Oba of Ojokoro Palace, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos State.

After the interment, the celebration of a life well-lived will shift to a grander social gathering. Guests will thereafter be treated to a warm reception at Ronnie Dee Event Centre, opposite the BRT Park, Iju Road, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos State, by 2pm prompt.
Late High Chief Olaide is survived by his beloved wife, Mrs. Rachiel Omolabake Olaide (née Akinbisehin), children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, mentees, and numerous relatives. They include Bishop Olufemi Olaide, Comrade Modupe Olaide, Mrs. Omolola Badmus, Hon. Aduragbemi ‘Lanre Olaide (Omobabapupa), Dr. Ayoola Olaide (AYSwag), Mrs. Moyosore Adebowale, and Miss Dorcas Olaide. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Engr. (Mrs.) Abosede Bamidele Adegboyega (née Olaide).
