The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the collation of results from the 21 Local Government Areas in Anambra State after the governorship election held on Saturday.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, in his address announced Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi as the returning officer for the process.

Returning officers for the political parties include Mr Chibuzor Obiakor – APC, Dr Alex Obiogbolu – PDP, and Senator Victor Umeh – APGA among others.

So far, results for Anaocha, Oyi, Awka South, Anambra East and Dunukofia LGAs have been announced.

A total of 18 candidates took part in the election held in the 21 local government areas of the state.

REPORTERS AT LARGE reporters on the ground provided live updates of the voting process, live updates of the results from polling units and live updates of the results announced at the various local government areas.

The electoral commission, INEC, is set to commence the announcement of the final results at the state collation centre in Awka, the state capital.

Dunukofia LG
Registered voters, 74, 855
Accredited voters – 10, 134
APC – 1992
APGA – 4124
PDP – 1680
YPP – 1360
Total valid votes – 9594
Invalid votes – 498
Total votes cast – 10092
No cancellations

 

Awka South LGs
Registered voters – 176, 812
Accredited voters – 23, 854
APC- 2595
APGA – 12891
PDP – 5498
YPP – 919
Valid votes – 22, 802
Rejected votes – 875
Votes cast – 23, 677
No record of cancellation

Oyi Local Govt
Registered voters – 100, 764
Accredited voters – 13, 241
APC – 2837
APGA – 6133
PDP – 2484
YPP – 900
Valid votes – 12643
Rejected votes – 492
Votes cast – 13, 135
No record of cancellation

Ayamelum Local govt
Registered voters – 87, 128
Accredited voters – 9, 754
APC – 2409
APGA – 3424
PDP – 2804
YPP – 407
Valid votes – 9534
Rejected votes – 117
Total votes cast – 9651

Incidents: in Iffite Ogwari 2 RA polling Unit 005, 006 and 009. There cases of over voting and violence.
Three PUs were affected.
Total affected registered voters: 1, 462.

Aniocha LG
Registered voters – 109, 860
Accredited voters – 15, 940
APC – 2085
APGA – 6911
PDP – 5108
YPP – 868
Valid votes – 15483
Rejected votes – 440
Total votes cast – 15923

Cancelations: no deployment of staff and material at unit 008 and unit 009 at Akwaeze RAs

No deployment also at Ichida RAs, unit 01. 409 registered voters were affected due to the no deployment issue in the three units.

Anambra East LGAs
Registered voters – 98, 426
<span;>Accredited voters – 14, 419

Votes by parties:
APC – 2034
APGA – 9746
PDP – 1380
YPP – 559
Valid votes – 14044
Rejected votes – 302
Total votes cast – 14346

Six incidences recorded including cases of over voting, failure of BVAs and manual accreditation issues, no deployment of voters and violence.

Three RAs and Six units were affected. Registered voters affected by the aforementioned incidents: 3004.

Idemmili South LGAs
Registered voters – 112, 652
Accredited voters – 6, 622
Votes by parties:
APC – 1039
APGA – 2312
PDP – 2016
YPP – 752
Valid votes – 6402
Rejected votes – 2017
Total votes cast – 6609

Incidents: 
1. Results in Akwukwu code 005, polling units affects -12; with 5982 registered votees. No election.

2. Oba1 code 10, no of affected registered voters: 14, 270. Oba1 code 7, No of registered voters 15459.

3. Ojoto RA: no voting in 7 polling units: 626 registered voters affected.

Total affected registered voters: 40, 337. PUs affected: 89.

The returning officer said the reason for the incident in Oba2, one of the the POs carted away 41 results sheets so election did not hold. In Oba1, violence and snatching away material resulting in election not holding.

Despite the incidents noted, the APC agent insisted that elections held but there was no collation. The PDP agent however insisted there was election. The APGA agent agreed with the PDP agent.

Onitsha North LGA
Registered voters – 156, 775
Accredited voters – 9, 406
Votes by parties:
APC – 2050
APGA – 4281
PDP – 2253
YPP – 271
Valid votes – 1145
Rejected votes – 195
Total votes cast – 1340
No incidents, cancellations and comments.

Njikoka LGAs
Registered voters – 103, 715
Accredited voters – 17, 934
Votes by parties:
APC – 3216
APGA – 8803
PDP – 3409
YPP – 924
Valid votes – 1694
Rejected votes – 725
Total votes cast – 17, 683

No incidents, cancellations and comments. 

Nnewi North LGA
Registered voters – 139, 368
Accredited voters – 13, 751
Votes by parties:
APC – 1278
APGA – 3369
PDP – 1511
YPP – 6485
Valid votes – 13124
Rejected votes – 439
Total votes cast – 13563

Incidents: 16 polling units and 85 registered voters were affected. No deployment of personnel no election. 

Orumba South LGA
18 RAs
Registered voters – 74, 690
Accredited voters – 10, 554

Votes by parties:
APC – 2060
APGA – 4394
PDP – 1672
YPP – 887
Valid votes – 10132
Rejected votes – 439
Total votes cast – 10531

Incidents: Two incidents in RA Umunze 3 and Umunze 2.

The affected units were because of malfunctioning BVAs.

The state collation officer announces a hour recess. She said the process will continue by 3:30 p.m.
