Oyo South senatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) and member representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west federal constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, has condemned the abduction of Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the Adebayo Adelabu sister, alongside her twin sons.

Hon. Olajide described the incident as a painful, disturbing and unacceptable development capable of heightening fears among residents and undermining the relative peace for which Oyo State is known.

The federal lawmaker stated this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday through his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha.

Mrs. John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons were reportedly abducted by armed men on Wednesday morning while she was on her way to drop the children off at school in Ibadan.

Hon. Olajide expressed sympathy with the Adelabu family and all those affected by the unfortunate development while calling on security agencies to deploy every available resource towards ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those behind the crime.

According to him, the incident involving Adebayo Adelabu’s sister serves as a reminder of the growing security challenges confronting various parts of the country and the urgent need for collective action against criminal elements.

“This unfortunate incident is condemnable in its entirety. No family should be subjected to the trauma and uncertainty associated with kidnapping. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their family members and loved ones during this difficult period,” he stated.

The lawmaker noted that security is a collective responsibility, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible and timely information capable of preventing criminal activities.

Hon. Olajide further called for the reinforcement of community-based intelligence gathering, neighbourhood surveillance systems and collaboration between residents and security agencies.

He emphasised the importance of technology-driven security measures, including communication intelligence, digital tracking systems, data-driven policing and improved surveillance infrastructure in addressing contemporary security threats.

The lawmaker noted that the country must pivot toward technical intelligence to curb the menace.

“As Chairman of the House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, I strongly believe that technology must continue to play a critical role in our security architecture. Criminal networks thrive when intelligence gathering is weak. We must strengthen our capacity to monitor, detect and disrupt criminal activities before they occur,” he said.

The Allied Peoples’ Movement APM candidate closed his statement by reassuring the people of Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west federal constituency that legislative measures would continue to target the root causes of insecurity. He insisted that the rescue of Adebayo Adelabu’s sister and her young children remains a top priority for regional security networks.
