The League of Council Aspirants of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan South-West Local Government, under the leadership of Hon. Sunday Adeleke, has celebrated the 65th birthday of renowned Oyo State politician and grassroots leader, Chief Adebisi Olopoeyan, describing him as a man of “timber and calibre” whose contributions to politics and society continue to inspire many across Nigeria.
The council aspirants made the commendation during a lively birthday celebration held recently at Chief Olopoeyan’s residence in Bashorun, Ibadan, where they joined family members, political associates, friends, and well-wishers to mark the significant milestone.
Honouring Adebisi Olopoeyan and His Legacy in Oyo State
Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Hon. Sunday Adeleke stated that Chief Olopoeyan’s 65th birthday was not merely an occasion to celebrate his age but also a vital opportunity to recognise his years of service, leadership, and contributions to the Oyo State political development.
According to Adeleke, true leadership is measured not by titles or positions, but by the ability and willingness to serve the people faithfully.
“Leadership can be determined by many factors, but most importantly, by the ability to serve. Service remains the hallmark of true leadership, and consciously, Olopoeyan’s leadership has reflected what we should expect from a true leader.
“Looking at the personality of Baba Olopoeyan, it is clear that he has become a beacon of hope to many of us. We cannot underestimate his prowess as a grassroots politician, and we must continue to respect such a great voice in Oyo State.”
Ibadan South-West APM Aspirants Praise a Grassroots Icon
Adeleke further described Olopoeyan as a politician whose influence transcends political affiliations, stressing that his experience and deep understanding of grassroots politics have made him a respected figure among political stakeholders across the state.
He said the decision by the Ibadan South-West APM aspirants to honour the elder statesman was informed by their genuine appreciation of his contributions to humanity, politics, and community development over many decades.
“One of the reasons we decided to honour his 65 years of existence is that it stands as a testament to his achievements in the political landscape of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
“Baba Olopoeyan symbolises what a man of timber and calibre represents. He remains a testament to the power of the people’s voice, and this is evident in his contributions to humanity and society.
“His journey over the years has demonstrated that political leadership should be about service, mentorship, sacrifice and the ability to stand for the people, especially at the grassroots,” he added.
Promoting Grassroots Political Leadership and Youth Mentorship
The APM aspirants also commended Olopoeyan for what they described as his fatherly disposition towards younger politicians and his willingness to offer guidance and counsel to those navigating the often challenging terrain of Nigerian politics.
They noted that experienced political figures play a vital role in demonstrating sound grassroots political leadership by mentoring the next generation, particularly at a time when political participation among young people continues to grow across the region.
The group prayed for continued good health, wisdom, and longevity for Chief Olopoeyan, expressing optimism that he would remain an enduring source of guidance and inspiration to those who look up to him.
“We pray that God will continue to preserve him for us and grant him many more years in good health. He remains a beacon of hope, particularly at a time of political uncertainty. We need the wisdom and experience of leaders like Baba Olopoeyan now more than ever,” Adeleke said.
The celebration ended with prayers, goodwill messages, and heartfelt tributes from political associates and well-wishers, who joined the family in celebrating the 65th year of Chief Adebisi Olopoeyan’s life and public service.
For the Ibadan South-West APM aspirants, the gathering was both a warm birthday tribute and a reaffirmation of their respect for a man they described as a significant, irreplaceable voice in Oyo State’s political landscape.
