The official flag-off of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s campaign for the upcoming Ekiti governorship election drew massive crowds to the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion this Monday. The event, which signals strong momentum for the incumbent, showcased a rare display of political unity within the state. Observers noted that the atmosphere remained electrifying throughout the afternoon, as thousands of residents gathered to support the Governor’s second-term bid.

Governor BAO, as he is fondly called, continues to receive praise for his calm and focused leadership style. His first term has been defined by a commitment to resilience and competency, qualities that have helped him navigate the complex landscape of Ekiti State politics. Beyond the political significance, the rally provided a clear economic stimulus for Ado-Ekiti. Local hotels reported full occupancy, and local vendors enjoyed a significant increase in daily sales.

Ekiti Governorship Election: A Rare Consensus Among Former Leaders

One of the most notable aspects of the campaign launch was the presence of all four living former governors. Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Engr. Segun Oni, and Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose stood together in a show of support. This achievement highlights the strategic approach Biodun Oyebanji has taken to foster peace across party lines. Achieving this level of consensus is a difficult task in Nigerian politics, yet it remains a hallmark of his current administration.

The Impact of the Ayodele Fayose Endorsement

The presence of Ayodele Fayose generated significant buzz among the attendees. Although he remains a stalwart of the opposition PDP, his decision to mount the podium and endorse the APC candidate surprised many. The crowd erupted into loud cheers as he addressed the gathering, confirming that his personal influence in the region remains potent.

“I am not a member of the APC,” Fayose said. “But BAO is too good not to support. After his re-election, opposition politics will resume. But for now, I am for BAO.”

The endorsement invites a deeper look at the nature of political alliances in the state. Some wonder if this move represents genuine reconciliation or a calculated step ahead of the June polls. Regardless of the motivation, the reaction from the crowd was unmistakable. The supporters clearly appreciated the gesture, further solidifying the narrative that Fayose’s connection with the grassroots remains strong.

What Lies Ahead for the Election

As we look toward the June 20, 2026, Ekiti governorship election, the political landscape appears to be shifting. Governor Oyebanji’s ability to unite opposing voices suggests a unique governing philosophy that resonates with the public. While scrutiny of such alliances is natural, the rally served as a reminder of the incumbent’s growing influence. Whether this momentum holds through the final ballot remains a subject of intense local debate. For now, the people of Ekiti seem focused on the stability and growth promised by the current administration.
