Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism has put every machinery in place to narrate the untold story of one of the icons of the state, late Francis Adekunle Fajuyi.
The story would be told via a stage drama entitled, “Ifajuyigbe, An Untold Story of the Late Col. Adekunle Fajuyi” on the 55th birthday anniversary of Governor John Kayode Fayemi.
The stage drama, written and directed by the state Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Prof. Rasaki Ojo-Bakare is entitled Ifajuyigbe. It would hold on Saturday, 8th February 2019 at Adetiloye Hall Ado Ekiti.
Recall that Adekunle Fajuyi, MC BEM, was a Nigerian soldier of Yoruba origin, and the first military governor of the former Western Region, Nigeria.
Born, June 26, 1926, Fajuyi was assassinated by the revenge striving counter-coupists led by Major T. Y Danjuma on July 29, 1966, at Ibadan.
He was killed along with General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, the Head of State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; who had arrived in Ibadan on July 28, 1966 to address a conference of natural rulers of Western Nigeria.
The bloody overthrow of the civilian regime of Prime Minister Sir Tafawa Balewa’s government had taken place six months earlier in which the Prime Minister and other top government functionaries, especially of northern Nigerian extraction, were killed.
