James Rodríguez has officially retired from international football, bringing an emotional end to a 15-year career with the Colombia national team.

Rodríguez leaves the national team as Colombia’s record appearance holder, having played 131 matches for the senior side. He scored 31 goals and provided 43 assists, while also becoming the country’s second-highest goalscorer behind Radamel Falcao García.

Rodríguez made his senior Colombia debut in 2011 during a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia in La Paz. Over the following 15 years, the attacking midfielder became one of the central figures of the national team.
