A senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, has revealed that there is concern among the party’s leadership over the rift between its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Makarfi stated that the political alliance between the Rivers State governor and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is worrisome, according to The Punch.
The former governor of Kaduna State called on those brokering reconciliation to be given a chance to work and not use their public comments to heat the polity.
Makarfi was also a two-term senator of the Kaduna North senatorial district. He stated that he always supports reconciliation at all levels, adding that the same process is underway in Kaduna.
“I equally believe we should give those brokering the reconciliation a chance and not heat things up through public comments from all sides. Events in politics are highly unpredictable.”
He maintained that what should have worried the party was what was not in the public domain, but in this case, the romance between Wike and the APC leadership is in the public domain and is worrisome.
The National Working Committee of the party met with PDP governorship candidates from across the 36 states of the federation at its headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by all PDP governorship candidates except the Oyo State governor, who is currently out of the country.
