Tobi Amusan finishes second in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, after clocking 12.34 seconds in a competitive final.

The Nigerian sprint hurdler finished behind American star Masai Russell, who continued her unbeaten season with a superb 12.22-second performance.

Russell pulled away from the field to claim the gold medal, while Amusan secured silver. Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser completed the podium in third place after recording 12.39 seconds.

Tobi Amusan Finishes Second in Budapest

Amusan lined up in the final with the opportunity to add another major title to her impressive career.

The Nigerian got away well and remained among the leading athletes during the race, but Russell produced the stronger finish to take control of the contest.

Amusan eventually crossed the line in 12.34s, securing second place and the silver medal.

The 12.34-second run put her 0.12 seconds behind Russell, who stopped the clock at 12.22s.

For Amusan, it was another opportunity to compete against the world’s leading sprint hurdlers. While she was unable to match Russell’s winning pace, her performance was enough to put her ahead of Visser and the rest of the field.

The result also gives Nigeria another podium moment on the international athletics stage.

Masai Russell Continues Her Unbeaten Season

The biggest talking point from the Budapest final was Russell’s continued unbeaten run.

The American entered the race with confidence and produced another strong performance when it mattered most. Her 12.22s (+0.1) was the fastest time of the final and allowed her to pull clear of Amusan and Visser.

Russell’s victory means her unbeaten season continues, adding another major win to an already impressive campaign.

The +0.1 wind reading was also within the legal limit, meaning the performance was recorded under favourable but regulation conditions.

With her latest victory, Russell once again demonstrated why she has become one of the major names in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Her ability to maintain her form throughout the season has made her a difficult opponent, and the Budapest final provided another example of her consistency.

Amusan Takes Silver Behind Russell

Amusan’s second-place finish gives the Nigerian another international medal.

The 100m hurdles remains one of the most competitive events in women’s athletics, and finishing on the podium against a strong field is a significant achievement.

Amusan recorded 12.34s, narrowly missing out on the gold medal but comfortably securing second ahead of Visser.

The Nigerian has built a reputation for competing at the highest level, and another podium finish adds to that record.

For fans back home, the result may come with mixed emotions. Amusan was unable to claim the title, but she still delivered a strong performance and collected a substantial prize.

Her silver medal also ensures Nigeria features prominently in the final standings of another major international athletics event.

Visser completed the podium after finishing third in 12.39 seconds.

The Dutch hurdler was only 0.05 seconds behind Amusan, highlighting how close the battle for the remaining podium places was.

Russell, however, had enough speed to separate herself from the field and secure the victory.

The final standings showed Russell at the top, followed by Amusan and Visser.

Women’s 100m hurdles final:

  •  Masai Russell: USA— 12.22s (+0.1)
  • Tobi Amusan: Nigeria— 12.34s
  • Nadine Visser: France — 12.39s

The three athletes produced the fastest performances of the final and took the medals in Budapest.

$75,000 Reward for Tobi Amusan

Amusan’s runner-up finish was also rewarded financially. The Nigerian takes home $75,000 for finishing second in the women’s 100m hurdles final.

While the prize does not replace the opportunity to win the gold medal, it adds significant value to what was already a strong performance.

For Amusan, the combination of a silver medal and substantial prize money makes the Budapest outing a positive one despite Russell taking the top spot.

The result also keeps attention firmly on the Nigerian as the athletics season continues.

A Major Result for Nigerian Athletics

Amusan remains one of Nigeria’s biggest names in track and field, and her performances continue to attract attention whenever she competes internationally.

Her latest result once again places a Nigerian athlete on the podium at a major championship.

The second-place finish is particularly notable because of the quality of the competition. Russell is enjoying an unbeaten season, while Visser has also established herself as one of the leading hurdlers on the international circuit.

Amusan’s ability to finish ahead of the Dutch athlete and claim silver underlines her competitiveness at the highest level.

Although gold went to Russell, Nigeria still leaves Budapest with a medal through Amusan.

Russell Takes the Budapest Spotlight

Russell ultimately had the final say in Budapest. Her 12.22-second run gave her the gold medal and extended her unbeaten season. Amusan followed with 12.34s, while Visser completed the podium with 12.39s.

The difference between first and second was just 0.12 seconds, showing that Amusan was within striking distance of the American but could not close the gap before the finish.

What the Result Means for Amusan

A silver medal is not the result Amusan would have wanted after entering a major final, but it remains an important achievement.

Her 12.34s places her second in a final won by an athlete who is yet to lose this season.

The $75,000 prize also provides a financial reward for her performance, while the silver medal adds another piece of success to her international career.

For Nigerian athletics supporters, there is plenty to celebrate.

Amusan may have missed out on gold in Budapest, but she still stood on the podium, represented Nigeria among the world’s best and walked away with a significant prize.

Meanwhile, Russell’s unbeaten run continues after another impressive victory.

The Budapest final therefore belonged to two stories: Russell extending her perfect season and Amusan securing another major podium finish for Nigeria.
