The vibrant streets of Igboora erupted in colour and culture on Saturday as dignitaries, traditional rulers, and thousands of visitors gathered for the grand finale of the 2026 Twins Festival.
Representing the state chief executive at the global gathering, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, used the landmark World Twins Festival Igboora to deliver a compelling political message.
Addressing the crowds, he expressed firm confidence that the people of Ibarapaland will demonstrate their appreciation for the Governor Seyi Makinde administration through their political choices in the upcoming Oyo State 2027 elections, including sustained support for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and its candidates.
Key political figures accompanied the Speaker to the colourful cultural gathering, which celebrates Igboora’s unique identity and its remarkable reputation for twin births. Among the APM candidates in attendance were Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo (Oyo South Senatorial District), and Adebayo Anthony Adepoju, popularly called Ibarapakan (Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North Federal Constituency).
Celebrating Culture and Strategic Alliances at the Twins Festival
Addressing dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, indigenes, and visitors at the event, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin said the people of Ibarapaland had every reason to appreciate an administration that recognised their communities and incorporated the region directly into the broader development agenda of Oyo State.
He expressed confidence that residents of the region would have the opportunity to demonstrate their appreciation for the governor’s leadership through their political choices ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The Speaker stressed that the political future of the state must remain firmly guided by sustainable development, the continuity of progress, and the collective interests of its people.
Development Strides Under the Governor Seyi Makinde Administration
He commended Governor Makinde for what he described as purposeful leadership and developmental strides across the state, particularly in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other critical sectors.
According to him, the administration’s interventions across these sectors demonstrate its commitment to the growth and development of Oyo State.
He urged the people of Ibarapaland to continue engaging constructively with the government and supporting initiatives that promote progress, inclusion, and long-term prosperity across all local council areas.
Igboora Heritage Highlights the World Twins Festival Igboora
Beyond the political message, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin described the global event as an important celebration of the cultural identity and heritage of Igboora, a community that has earned international recognition for its high incidence of twin births.
He noted that the gathering provided a prime opportunity to showcase Ibarapaland to the world while promoting cultural preservation, tourism, and local economic growth.
The annual celebration remains one of Nigeria’s most distinctive cultural assets, drawing global tourists and showcasing the unique demographic wonder of Ibarapa Central. As political activities gather momentum across the southwest region, cultural platforms like Igboora’s iconic gathering continue to serve as crucial arenas where local heritage meets grassroots political strategy.
