As the race for the Oyo 2027 governorship gains momentum, the gubernatorial candidate for the Action Alliance, Oyo State chapter, Comrade Sikiru Bayo Titilola-Sodo, has declared that his political ambition stems purely from a drive to bring relief and lasting socio-economic comfort to citizens across the state.
Speaking during a live broadcast on Melody FM in Ibadan, the political strategist outlined a clear governance vision centred on structural administrative reform, socio-economic revitalisation, and genuine grassroots development and rural communities desperately require.
Restoring Local Government Administration
A central pillar of Titilola-Sodo’s campaign involves restructuring the administrative frameworks at the third tier of government. He voiced serious concerns regarding the current state of local government administration under the current leadership in the state.
According to the Action Alliance candidate, local councils have suffered systemic neglect and financial bottlenecks that cripple their constitutional obligations.
I believe that our local governments have been rendered redundant, limiting their ability to fulfil their responsibilities and contribute effectively to grassroots development.”
He emphasised that sustainable development across the 33 local council areas cannot take place when local authorities remain financially or administratively suffocated. Empowering these councils, he noted, remains essential to reversing decades of rural-urban drift and socio-economic decline.
A Vision Centred on People-First Governance
Addressing questions surrounding his underlying political motives, Comrade Titilola-Sodo rejected allegations of hidden political interests or backroom deals. He maintained that his political journey remains guided entirely by public interest and accountable leadership.
“My ambition to become the Governor of Oyo State is driven by my sincere desire to bring comfort, relief, and meaningful development to the good people of our dear state. I have no hidden agenda behind my decision to contest; my intention is to serve the people and make life better for them.”
His public declaration sets a distinct tone for the upcoming Oyo 2027 governorship contest, shifting the political conversation toward functional institutions, civil welfare, and institutional accountability.
Empowering Grassroots Development Across Oyo Communities
Outlining his strategic blueprint for the state, Comrade Titilola-Sodo pledged to introduce sweeping reforms that will return administrative authority and fiscal capacity to local authorities. This policy direction, he argued, ensures that development projects directly reflect the immediate needs of everyday citizens.
“If given the opportunity to govern Oyo State, I will address this anomaly and work towards restoring the effectiveness of local government administration. Our local governments must be empowered to perform their constitutional responsibilities and deliver meaningful development to the people at the grassroots.
He concluded his broadcast by detailing a broader socio-economic framework designed to make governance accessible, equitable, and efficient for all residents, irrespective of their political affiliations or social status.
“My vision is to build an Oyo State where governance works for everyone, where local communities receive the attention they deserve, and where the comfort and welfare of our people remain a priority.”
With political alignments shifting ahead of the electoral cycle, Titilola-Sodo’s emphasis on local government autonomy and social welfare places the Action Alliance as a noteworthy contender in the state’s evolving political landscape.
