THE Ekiti Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi, has said the N1.3bn loan from the Federal Government will be used to pay part of the workers salary arrears from this week.

He stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Ado Ekiti.

Ogunsuyi said, “We are going to use the ‘Budget Adjustment Support facility’ to pay backlog of workers salaries. That is what it will be mainly used for. It is even not enough to clear the arrears. The workers will be paid this week because that is topmost on our priority for now.”

When contacted, the state president of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Mr. Bunmi Ajimoko, while commending the Federal Government for the initiative, advised the state government not to divert the money to other use.

“We will wait and see. We hope the state government will use it for what is intended because workers are passing through a difficult time,” he said.
