The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, the People’s Democratic Party, and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) have been petitioned to stop Wahab Waliu Olatunji from parading himself as the bona fide candidate of the party in the coming local government election in the state.
This was contained in a petition with suit number Hoy/54/2023 filed in the High Court of Oyo State claiming that the WAEC result tendered by Waliu Olatunji to contest the election should not be considered.
Olanrewaju Afeez Basorun, in the petition, claimed that as of 1996, physical education was not included in the WAEC curriculum, as claimed by Wahab Olatunji, and urged the relevant authorities to stop the decision of the PDP to present him as its candidate in the next local government election.
Olanrewaju Afeez of Isale Basorun in Oyo claimed in the petition that Waliu Olatunji, the proposed candidate of the PDP, is not qualified and that the 21-day ultimatum commenced from the day the petition was served.
The petition seeks to know whether the non-presentation of a valid qualifying certificate by a candidate for the position of chairman of a local government is grounds for disqualification.
Hon. Olanrewaju Afeez of Atiba Local Government, however, in the petition, called on the PDP, WAEC, and OYSIEC to revert Waliu Olatunji from representing the party in the election.
