The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) has bemoaned the activities of fake and unregistered travel agencies that are taking advantage of unsuspecting members of the public.
NANTA Vice President, Western Zone, Otunba Babatunde Adesokan, said this while reacting to the news that a travel agency duped his client out of N70,000,000.
Adesokan said the fraudster, camouflaging as a travel agency, is not known to any association members in the zone, which comprises Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Kwara and Kogi states.
“We have long been sensitising members of the public against the activities of these dubious characters who are taking advantage of technological advancements to venture into a business they know little or nothing about.”
“We have received several petitions and complaints from victims of their nefarious activities, but there is little we could do because those who duped them are not registered members of NANTA, and they can only be irrelevant when people stop patronising them.”
Adesokan added, “We have also been calling on the government to join the advocacy against quackery, but they are not cooperating, and their inaction is encouraging the activities of these fake travel agencies.
While urging the public always to patronise NANTA registered members who have been duly checked and trained to handle their travel services, Adesokan said, “At NANTA, our members are core professionals with integrity, and we will ensure those quacks are sent out of business.”
