The wife of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Titi Abubakar, has asked Nigerian youths to make her husband their choice in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during a high-stakes town hall meeting in Abuja, she assured voters that young people would eventually demand that he stays beyond his first term if elected.
Titi Abubakar aims to secure massive support by positioning her husband, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as the experienced leader capable of reversing the nation’s economic struggles.
Driving Youth Mobilisation for the 2027 Presidential Election
Addressing delegates at the ADC All Support Groups Town Hall Meeting, Titi Abubakar charged youths to take complete ownership of the political process ahead of the poll. Although Atiku has pledged to serve only one term in office, she insisted that his stellar performance would compel Nigerians to ask for a continuation.
“By the grace of God, when Atiku comes to this saddle, people will yearn that Atiku should continue and do a second term,” she said.
She added that a single term would also provide an adequate window for Atiku to mentor a capable successor.
“By then, he would have tutored his deputy; maybe the deputy will take over from him,” she added.
Spousal Diplomacy Defines the Campaign Trail
The intervention by Titi Abubakar adds a dynamic dimension to the unfolding race for the Atiku Abubakar presidency. Spouses of leading political contenders are increasingly stepping onto the frontlines to build emotional connections with the electorate.
This trend gained noticeable traction recently when First Lady Oluremi Tinubu made a direct appeal to voters in the South-East. Speaking during an official empowerment event in Owerri, Imo State, the First Lady urged the region to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. She noted that she wanted to “enjoy Nigeria at old age” while continuing her public service work.
However, Titi Abubakar maintained that her husband stands out due to his proven track record in public governance and private philanthropy.
“Atiku is a sellable material. That is why I am so proud of my husband. Atiku is a philanthropist. Atiku has done it before. Atiku is not going to learn on the job. And Atiku is not a novice,” she stated.
She emphasised that his presidential quest stems from a genuine desire to uplift citizens rather than seek personal enrichment.
“Atiku is a man of honour, a man of his word. Atiku is not coming to chop government money. Atiku wants to give back to you people. Atiku wants you people to know what it is all about the government,” she said.
Strategic ADC Youth Mobilisation and Governance Reform
Crucial to the party’s strategy is comprehensive ADC youth mobilisation. Titi Abubakar revealed that young Nigerians will serve as the primary “foot soldiers” for the campaign. To demonstrate this commitment, Atiku has pledged that youths and women will secure 40 per cent of all government appointments under his administration.
She urged young voters to convert their enthusiasm into practical grassroots action and protect their ballots at every polling unit. Furthermore, she issued a stern warning against cash-for-votes inducements, cautioning that financial bribes compromise long-term national growth.
“ADC doesn’t have that money to give you. Don’t be a sellout. Because these people, they have all our money in their kitties,” she declared. “Don’t allow them to come and give you money and you sell your conscience. If you sell your vote, you are selling the vote of your generation yet unborn.”
Turning her focus to national affairs, she delivered a scathing assessment of current governance standards, pointing to economic hardship and institutional breakdown.
“Now, today, we have no constitution. We have no rule of law. Nothing is working. Our economy is in shambles,” she asserted.
She raised grave concerns regarding national fiscal management and the daily struggles faced by ordinary families.
“Right from 2023 up to date, there is no budget in Nigeria. And I wonder how people are living. I wonder how people are eating,” she noted.
Closing her address, she declared that Atiku possesses the vision required to repair national pride and restore economic stability.
“Atiku wants to put things right. We want to be like other nations, but here and now we don’t have anything at all. We are not proud of ourselves,” she concluded.
The town hall, convened under the theme ‘Together We Can Build the Nigeria We Desire,’ focused on polling-unit coordination, voter protection, and expanding the role of youth groups ahead of the ballot.
