Ibadan High Chiefs, Mogajis, and other traditional Chiefs are set to launch Ibadan Compounds Sports Competition/Fiesta to create an avenue for youths in Ibadanland in discovering their talents and be useful for the state and nation.
The pre-event meeting for the launch of the sporting fiesta which will be held at Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resort, Oloyo village, Akaran, Ibadan has been slated for 29th of May, 2021,
A statement signed by the coordinator of Ibadan Compounds Sports Competition/Fiesta, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade stated that the proposed sports fiesta as part of their effort to discovered hidden sporting talents of youths in Ibadan, adding that this will also eradicate gangsterism and various societal decadences among youths within Ibadan metropolis.
The statement reads, “Prestigious annual Ibadan compound competition is been put together to address the challenges of our youths, we are inviting distinguished high chiefs, senior chiefs, traditional chief and the Mogajis in Ibadanland to the special meeting.”
Akinade however said that a brief presentation will be made by some dignitaries at the meeting on the saving guarding institution of Olubadan of Ibadanland, legal implications on acts of hooliganism among youths in Ibadan land, eradicating educational decadence among Ibadan youths, and youths empowerment and economic development in Ibadanland among others.
Meanwhile, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji in a letter dated 14th of May, 2021 signed by the media aide to the monarch, Mr Adeola Oloko endorsed the proposed sports fiesta, describing it as a right step in the right direction.
The letter, which was addressed to the chairman of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Engr Dotun Sanusi, stated that the program will create an avenue for unemployed youth in Ibadan and Oyo State at large to showed their talents to the world, adding that this is one of the ways in proffering solutions to security challenges in Ibadanland through sports engagements.
