The family of late Brigadier General Benjamin Adekunle empowered widows, students, the less privileged and other vulnerable in society with items worth millions of naira in Ogbomoso, on Tuesday.

The initiative was part of the 10th-year remembrance of the late Civil War hero and took place at the Soun’s Palace.

Barrister Busola Olagunju (Nee Adekunle), the eldest daughter of Brigadier General Adekunle, emphasised that their mission is to alleviate the impact of economic hardships faced by many in the country. “This event aims to provide support for those in need during these challenging times,” she stated.

During the event, the family distributed cash, clothing, and foodstuffs to widows. Students were also beneficiaries, receiving school bags, uniforms, sandals, and exercise books.

Students of the school for the blind, Ogbomoso, were also presented cash gifts.

In his welcome address, Sir Olusegun Adekunle noted that the foundation serves as a fitting tribute to the late Ashipa of Ogbomosoland. He assured attendees that the family would continue to carry out meaningful initiatives to keep his memory alive.

Beneficiaries of the program including Risikat Olaoye, expressed their gratitude to the Adekunle family for their generosity and offered prayers for continued blessings upon them.

Their respective traditional chiefs and His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, the Soun Ogbomosoland, and Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran, the Onpetu of Ijeruland, were present.

Former Chief of Statf to late Governor Alao Akala, Dr Saka Balogun, and Rector Federal Poly Ayede Ogbomoso Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdulahmeed, and a retired military officer, in their separate remarks, said the late Adekunle, who is a true reflection of Ogbomosoland valiancy, played a significant role in ensuring the unity of Nigeria and commended the laudable gesture of the Adekunle’s family
