University Of Ibadan DVC Tells Alumni How To Live Long

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic at the University of Ibadan, Professor Aderonke Baiyeroju has charged alumni of the institution to keep in touch with their classmates to prolong their lives.

She stated that keeping in touch with each other encourages the sharing of memories and engenders a spirit of camaraderie.

Professor Baiyeroju made the statements while receiving on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, a group of members of the UI MBBS Class of 1974.

Professor Baiyeroju commended members of the MBBS Class of 1974 for coming back to their Alma Mater and for the celebration of 50 years after graduation.

She stated that even though the University of Ibadan is presently ranked in the Times Higher Education Rankings as the best in Nigeria, best in West Africa and no. 6 in Africa, UI is always striving to be better, adding that the institution is counting on the support of its alumni to achieve this.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, SAN, also appreciated the MBBS Class of 1974 for giving back to the institution.

She urged members of the class to mentor the younger ones to empower them to continue the good works of the elders.

The MBBS Class of 1974 was in the University to hold a three-day reunion programme to celebrate 50 years of leaving the University. Members were assembled from all over the world.

The Chairman and other members of the class were led to the office of the Vice-Chancellor by the Co-Chairman, a retired Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a former Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Oladosu A. Ojengbede.

Prof. Ojengbede expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the University for giving them the foundation upon which they built to become the successful professionals that they are.

He assured of the Class set’s continuous contribution to the development of UI.

The Chairman of the MBBS Class of 1974, Dr. Gbenga Idowu said that the courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor was part of the activities for the celebration of 50 years of their graduation from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

He said that as the class marks the significant milestone, a ‘Strategic Leadership in Training/E-learning Initiative’ at a total cost of 45 million naira will be commissioned at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

A member of the class said they were excited that the University now has the Office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships that would promote research and development.
