The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from office.

This development came barely two days after the Assembly on Friday slammed four lawmakers with a three-month suspension over what fellow colleagues described as a plot to plunge the chamber into chaos.

Dajoh in a handwritten letter he signed, did not give any reason for his resignation which he stated was done in good faith.

“I write to resign my position as the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly effective today, 24 August, 2027.

“This is done in good fate and in the interest of the state. I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals.

“I pledge to remain committed to my duties as a legislator and representative of the Gboko West State Constituency,” the letter reads in part.

Meanwhile, the letter was presented and accepted at an emergency sitting of the House on Sunday evening, during which a new Speaker, Alfred Aondoaver Emberga, representing the Makurdi North constituency, emerged.

The new speaker is about to be sworn in.
