The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, of promoting policies the state government already pursues. The charge deepens a war of words over the Oyo governorship manifesto ahead of the 2027 election.
In a statement signed by Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, co-director of media and publicity at the Oyo State APM Campaign Council, the party replied to Alli’s campaign organisation (SSACO). SSACO had rejected the APM’s earlier critique of the manifesto.
What the APM says about the Oyo governorship manifesto
The APM says its objection was never that healthcare, education or agriculture are unimportant. It says the manifesto offers little that is original. It points to the promise of a primary healthcare centre in every ward, which it says mirrors the state’s existing one-PHC-per-ward initiative. “If that policy is evidence of failure, why adopt it?” the statement asks.
The party also says SSACO named no “signature reform” that would set Alli apart. It argues that Oyo’s recent ranking as Nigeria’s most liveable state and top performer in democratic governance undercuts claims of failure. The APM presented those rankings as fact. This report has not independently verified them.
Alli’s Oyo governorship manifesto, Oyo AHEAD
Alli unveiled Oyo AHEAD in Ibadan as a seven-pillar plan covering local government autonomy, infrastructure, health reform, education and employment, agriculture and export, the digital economy and security. His campaign director-general, Yemi Aderibigbe, said it was shaped by stakeholder consultations and a review of national statistics.
Governor Seyi Makinde has also dismissed the document as a collection of recycled promises. Alli’s camp has said Oyo wants positive change and that Oyo AHEAD is the vehicle for it. It has also criticised Makinde over hunger in the state despite rising federal allocations.
What the Oyo governorship manifesto row means for 2027
The APM is fielding Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Makinde has said he is confident voters will pick Adekanmbi over Alli. SSACO had not responded to the latest APM statement at the time of publication.
