The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has set up a Central Planning Committee to coordinate arrangements for the forthcoming Oyo NUJ 60th anniversary celebration of the council. In a decisive move to ensure an elite historic event, the union chose veteran media practitioner Amb. Wale Ojo-Lanre to lead the planning team.

This milestone celebration marks six decades of robust media practice, pressing ethical reportage, and professional solidarity within the state.

The official announcement, which was made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday, was jointly signed by the Chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas and Secretary, Temidayo Adu.

According to the union executives, the selection process was incredibly thorough, focusing solely on merit, deep industry experience, and institutional loyalty. The Oyo NUJ Press Centre will serve as the operational hub for all upcoming strategic meetings, logistics planning, and stakeholder engagements.

Ojo-Lanre to Lead Oyo NUJ Diamond Jubilee

The statement named former Chairman of the council, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, as Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, charged with overseeing all activities connected with the anniversary celebration. His deep roots in the media landscape make him a natural fit for this historic task.

This carefully selected team brings a massive wealth of collective knowledge to the table. They will steer the high-profile event from initial concepts to final execution over the coming months.

The union expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver a successful anniversary celebration. Leadership noted that the team possesses the right drive to handle an assignment of this magnitude.

Preparations Begin for Oyo NUJ 60th Anniversary

It said that the constitution of the committee marked the beginning of preparations for the Oyo State journalists’ diamond jubilee celebration of the union in Oyo State. Media houses across the south-west zone are already showing keen interest in the upcoming events.

According to the council, the committee comprises seasoned journalists and media professionals with proven capacity and commitment to the growth of the union and journalism practice in the state. Every member has spent years defending media freedom and uplifting the standards of the press in Nigeria.

The council added that the committee would soon unveil programmes designed to celebrate the achievements of the NUJ and honour individuals who have contributed significantly to the media profession in Oyo State. These upcoming events will highlight historical milestones, editorial bravery, and community development.

The committee is expected to also liaise with the State Working Committee for a successful Oyo NUJ diamond jubilee celebration. Further updates regarding schedules and keynote speakers will reach the public shortly.
