The landscape of Oyo State politics has shifted significantly as Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide formally entered the Oyo South senatorial race.

The two-term federal lawmaker made his declaration on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM). Representing the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West constituency in the House of Representatives, Olajide’s move marks a strategic calculation ahead of the 2027 general election.

The official statement, signed personally by Hon Olajide, was released to journalists on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha.

Party Supremacy Shapes the Oyo South Senatorial Race

The lawmaker explained that his choice to contest the seat comes from deep respect for party rules. He noted that the leadership of the executive governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, guided this political direction. The governor decided to zone the governorship position to the Oyo Central senatorial district. According to the lawmaker, this choice ensures equity, fairness, and proper political balance across the state.

As a loyal party man and key figure in Oyo State politics, Hon. Olajide felt it was vital to support this decision. By entering the contest on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement APM, he aims to keep serving his people. Having served two consecutive terms in the green chamber of the National Assembly, he believes he is ready for the next step. He now intends to bring high-quality representation to the broader Red Chamber.

In his official address, the lawmaker stressed that personal gain does not drive his ambition. Instead, he wants to build on current development, lift the voices of citizens, and bring new opportunities to the district through active lawmaking.

This political journey expands his current duties from two local government areas to nine. The wider region covers Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East, Ibadan North-West, Ibadan South-East, and Ibadan South-West. It also includes Ido, Ibarapa-East, Ibarapa-Central, and Ibarapa-North local government areas.

APM Candidate Pledges Grassroots Progress

Hon. Olajide promised to maintain his open style of governance. Over the years, his work has focused on youth empowerment, digital access, scholarships, and local constituency projects. He plans to scale up these exact initiatives across the entire district during the upcoming election cycle.

“As someone who has enjoyed immense support and confidence from the people over the years, I consider this aspiration a call to greater service. The task ahead is to broaden the frontiers of development and ensure that the people of Oyo south continue to have a strong and effective voice at the National Assembly,” the statement read in part.
