The deceased was a pupil of Matha Day Secondary School located in the Immirrigi community.

It was gathered that the deceased, who is from the Kolo community in Ogbia Local Government Area and residing with his Aunt at Imirringi, was in the company of his age mates, playing football at the open field when the lightning struck him dead.

Daily Trust reports an eye witness as saying that the deceased was trying to retrieve the ball from across the land used as a football field when he was struck by the lightning.
